SEO finding
A value in the structured data differs from the value a visitor sees
SEO Error Severity: High
Part of the audit Structured data says something the page does not. Finding id: seo.structuredValueDiffersFromPage.
What it costs you
Search engines show the value from the markup in results. A visitor then finds something else on the page, and rich results or shopping listings can be withdrawn for the mismatch.
What to do
Make the markup read the same field as the visible value.
What it checks
- Currency in data differs from page
- Stock status in data differs from page
- Rating or review count differs from page
- Product name in data differs from page
- Breadcrumb data differs from visible breadcrumb
- Event date in data differs from page
How to fix it
Print the markup from the same field as the page
- Find where the structured data for this template is generated and which field it reads for [fact type].
- Point it at the field the visible value uses, for the variant that is selected when the page loads.
- If two sources print markup for the same item (theme and plugin, or app), remove one.
- Clear page caches.
How to check: Run this rule again on the pages of the template.
A real case
A shop owner found products flagged because the price sent to Google was 23.00 GBP while the page showed 20.00 GBP, and the rich results test showed nothing wrong.
Thresholds
| Name | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
name_similarity | 0.3 | Below this similarity (0 to 1) between the Product name in the markup and the H1, the name counts as different. |
How to verify by hand
Merchant feed and Search Console rich-result or merchant warnings for the same URL.
What this relies on
The visible value is current; the markup is generated from a stale field or a different variant.
