A form field refuses pasted text

What it costs you

Visitors who paste an address, a long reference number or a password from a password manager have to type it by hand. People with motor or memory impairments are hit hardest, and typed values have more mistakes.

What to do

Remove the script that cancels the paste event on this field.

How to fix it

Allow pasting

  1. Find the script that listens for paste (or onpaste in the markup) on [selector] and calls preventDefault or returns false.
  2. Remove that listener. If it was meant to make people type an email address twice, compare the two values on submit instead.
