QA finding
The breadcrumb puts a page under another parent than the menu does
QA Warning Severity: Low
Part of the audit The link promises one thing and delivers another. Finding id: qa.breadcrumbVsMenu.
What it costs you
The visitor who goes one level up through the breadcrumb lands in another section than the one they came from, and loses their place.
What to do
Decide where the page belongs and make the menu and the breadcrumb say the same.
What it checks
- Breadcrumb disagrees with menu position
How to fix it
Give the page one place
- Open the page and compare its breadcrumb with its place in the menu.
- Decide which parent is right.
- If the breadcrumb is wrong, move the page in the page tree it is generated from. If the menu is wrong, move the menu item.
How to check: Crawl the site again. The page no longer appears in this rule.
How to verify by hand
A person who knows where the page belongs.
What this relies on
The menu is edited by hand and is current. The breadcrumb is generated from the page tree or the address and kept the old place.
