AI finding
An AI answer states a fact about the site that the site itself does not state
AI Warning Severity: High
Part of the audit AI answers contradict the site. Finding id: ai.aiAnswerContradictsSite.
What it costs you
People who ask an AI assistant about you are told something your site does not say: an old price, a wrong phone number. They act on it before they ever reach the site.
What to do
If the answer cites one of your own pages, correct that page. If it cites someone else, ask that source to correct it and state the fact clearly on your own site.
What it checks
- AI quotes an outdated price or offer
- AI gives wrong contact details
- AI cites an old page of your site
How to fix it
Correct or redirect the old page
- Open [cited url]. Correct the value, or redirect the page with a 301 to the page that holds the current one.
- Look for the same old value in PDFs and in other pages of the site.
How to check: Run the same prompt again after the engines have had time to recrawl, then run this rule again.
State the fact on the site and trace the outside source
- Open the cited URL in the evidence. If it belongs to someone else, ask that source to correct the value.
- If no source is cited, look for the value in old PDFs, cached copies and listings on other sites.
- State the current value in plain text on the page that should answer the question.
How to check: Run the same prompt again after the engines have had time to recrawl, then run this rule again.
A real case
Air Canada's website chatbot told a customer he could claim a bereavement fare after travelling, while the airline's own bereavement page said the opposite. A tribunal held the airline to the chatbot's answer and ordered it to pay C$812.02.
How to verify by hand
The cited source: if it is the site's own outdated page, the fix is on the site.
What this relies on
The site is right and the answer is stale or drawn from an old page.
