Rank tracking is paid per keyword. Positions for a phrase nobody searches say nothing about your visibility and make the reports look better or worse than they are.

Clean up the keyword list
- Check Search Console for the query. Impressions there count for more than a provider's estimate.
- If it has none, replace the keyword with the closest phrase that has searches.
How to check: Run this rule again after the keyword list is updated.
A real case
Ann Smarty looked up the monthly US searches for 'reddit marketing' and got 880,000 from Google Ads, 590,000 from Semrush and 100,000 from Ahrefs. She concluded that keyword volume is imprecise and inconsistent among the leading sources.
