SEO finding
The page has no usable title
SEO Error Severity: High
Part of the audit Title tag. Finding id: seo.titleMissing.
What it costs you
The title is the headline of your search result and the label of the browser tab. Without one, search engines pick a line from the page.
What to do
Give the page one title that says what it is about.
What it checks
- Page has no title
- Page title is blank
- More than one title on the page
How to fix it
Set the title in WordPress
- Open the page in the editor and fill in its title.
- In the theme's functions.php, declare title-tag support with the line above, so WordPress prints the title element.
- Remove any title element and any wp_title() call from the theme's header.php, and keep wp_head() in the head. A theme that prints its own title next to WordPress gives two.
- If a plugin manages titles, check that its title for this page is not empty.
How to check: Reload the page and view the source: exactly one <title> with text.
Add one title element
- Make the page template print exactly one <title> inside <head>.
- Fill it from the page's own name, not from a site-wide default.
How to check: View the source: exactly one <title> with text.
