SEO finding
A page with almost no text of its own is linked from many other sites
SEO Warning Severity: Medium
Part of the audit Backlinks. Finding id: seo.thinPageWithBacklinks.
What it costs you
With little text on the page, search engines rely on how other sites describe it. Anchor text you do not control can decide what the page ranks for and what title is shown.
What to do
Give the page real content that says what it is, a clear title and a canonical tag. If it is a login or utility page, redirect it with a 301 to the page those links should reach.
What it checks
- Thin page gaining links
How to fix it
Give the page its own description
- Open [url] and read the anchors of the links to it in the backlink report.
- If the anchors match what the page should be about, write that content on the page.
- If they do not, for example spam wording on a login page, redirect the page or add content that states what it is, and set a canonical tag.
How to check: Recrawl the site: the page has more words of its own than the threshold.
Thresholds
| Name | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
min_main_words | 150 | Fewer words than this in the main content counts as thin. The same default as seo.thinContent. |
min_referring_domains | 3 | Followed links from at least this many other domains are reported. |
