SEO finding

A link from another site still has placeholder anchor text

SEO Warning Severity: Medium

Part of the audit Backlinks. Finding id: seo.placeholderBacklinkAnchor.

What it costs you

A placeholder anchor says nothing about the page it points to, and the same odd text on several sites looks like a paid link campaign to search engines.

What to do

Ask the sites that link to you to replace the anchor with words that describe the page. If the links were bought or placed by an agency, ask who placed them.

What it checks

  • Links with placeholder text

How to fix it

Get the anchors corrected

  1. List the linking pages from this finding.
  2. Contact each site, or the agency that placed the links, and give the anchor text to use.

How to check: Wait for the backlink provider's next update: the links show a real anchor, or are gone.
