A new third-party script appeared, or one changed without a change on the site
SEO Info Severity: Medium
Part of the audit Page speed and Core Web Vitals. Finding id: seo.newThirdPartyCode.
What it costs you
Every script from another company adds download and run time, and can send visitor data to a new party. It also sits outside your own testing.
What to do
Confirm that it was added on purpose, that it is needed, and that it is covered in your privacy notice.
What it checks
- New outside code added
How to fix it
Find who added it
- Look up [src] (the host in the address names the vendor).
- Check the tag manager's version history and the site's recent releases for the day it appeared.
- If nobody can say why it is there, remove it and run the lab test again.
How to check: The script is gone from the next crawl, or its owner and purpose are written down.
How to verify by hand
The change log of the tag manager or the CMS; the person who owns marketing tags.
What this relies on
A third-party script that was not on the site at the last crawl and is now was added on purpose by someone with the right to.
