QA finding

The same product has different prices on different pages

QA Error Severity: High

Part of the audit The same product has different prices. Finding id: qa.pricesDifferAcrossPages.

What it costs you

A buyer who saw the lower price expects to pay it. You either honour it or explain it, and both cost money or trust.

What to do

Find where the page that differs gets its price from and make it read the price of the shop system.

What it checks

  • Listing price differs from product page
  • Old price on cached or promotional page
  • Currency differs between pages
  • Price in PDF price list differs
  • From price lower than every variant

How to fix it

Make every page read the shop's price

  1. Open the page from the finding next to the product page and confirm the two prices.
  2. A listing or search result that differs is usually served from a cache or a search index: rebuild it after price changes.
  3. A campaign page or a document with a typed-in price has to be edited by hand, or changed to load the price from the shop.
  4. For a 'from' price, set it to the cheapest variant a buyer can order now.

How to check: Crawl the site again. The product no longer appears in this rule.

A real case

A shop owner found products disapproved in Google's shopping results because Google took the price of the default variant and failed every variant priced differently.

How to verify by hand

The merchant feed or the shop system's own price.

What this relies on

The product page is the source; listings and campaign pages are cached or hand-edited.
