QA finding
A page has been on the site for a year and nobody visited it
QA Info Severity: Low
Part of the audit Analytics and the crawl see different sites. Finding id: qa.pagesWithoutVisits.
What it costs you
Every page has to be kept true, translated and migrated. A page nobody reads costs that work and returns nothing, and it can still show up in search with outdated content.
What to do
Decide per page: merge it into a page that is read, remove it with a redirect, or keep it on purpose.
What it checks
- Crawled page with no visits for a year
How to fix it
Merge, remove or keep on purpose
- Open the page and check that the analytics tag fires on it. If it does not, the page may have visits you cannot see: fix the tag first.
- If the content is still needed, move it into a page that is read and redirect this address there.
- If it is not needed, remove the page and redirect its address to the closest page.
- If the page has to exist, dismiss the finding with that reason.
How to check: After the next crawl the page is gone, redirected, or its finding is dismissed with a reason.
Thresholds
| Name | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
min_days | 365 | A page is returned when the crawler has known it for at least this many days and the analytics property holds at least this many days of data. |
max_sessions | 0 | A page with at most this many sessions in the last 365 days is returned. |
How to verify by hand
The analytics tag on the page, and the owner of the page.
What this relies on
A page nobody visited in a year is dead weight. The exception is a page that has to exist whether or not it is read, such as terms or an imprint.
