QA finding
A document is orphaned, very large, old or missing its title or language
QA Warning Severity: Low
Part of the audit Documents. Finding id: qa.documentProblems.
What it costs you
Documents are published once and then forgotten. They stay findable long after the pages around them were updated.
What to do
Remove files that are no longer needed, compress large ones, review old ones, and set title and language in the document properties before publishing.
What it checks
- Document not linked from any page
- File too large
- Document is old
- Document title or language missing
How to fix it
Remove or link the file
- Decide whether the file is still needed.
- If not, delete it and redirect its address to the page that replaces it.
- If it is, link it from the page it belongs to.
How to check: After the next crawl the file is gone or has at least one linking page.
Make the file smaller
- Open the source file and export it again with images downsampled to screen resolution.
- If it is still too large, split it into parts or offer the content as a web page.
- Upload the new file to the same address.
How to check: The size of the published file is under the limit.
Have the owner review the file
- Find who owns the file. The author in its properties is a start.
- Have them confirm the content, or replace the file with the current version at the same address.
- If the file is an archive copy that must stay, dismiss the finding with that reason.
How to check: After the next crawl the document is no longer listed, or its finding is dismissed with a reason.
Set title and language in the source file
- Open the source file, not the published export.
- Set the title and the language in the document properties.
- Export the file again and upload it to the same address.
How to check: Open the properties of the published file: title and language are filled in.
