QA finding
The same contact detail has different values across the site
QA Warning Severity: Medium
Part of the audit Contact details differ across the site. Finding id: qa.contactDetailsDiffer.
What it costs you
A visitor who calls the old number or drives to the old address does not reach you, and does not know which page to believe.
What to do
Decide which value is current. Replace the other one everywhere it appears, including templates, structured data and documents.
What it checks
- Phone number differs between pages
- Email address differs between pages
- Postal address differs between pages
- Opening hours differ between pages
- Company name differs between pages
How to fix it
Keep one value and replace the rest
- Take the value from the contact page, or from the business listing when one is connected.
- Use the page list of each other value to find where it is still written. `found_in` says whether it sits in a template, the page text, structured data or a document.
- A value in a template is fixed once in the template. A value in a document needs a new file.
How to check: Crawl the site again. The group has one value left.
A real case
Researchers at BrightLocal surveyed 1,025 US consumers in 2018: 80% said they lose trust in a local business when they see incorrect or inconsistent contact details or business names online.
How to verify by hand
The Google Business Profile listing; a person.
What this relies on
The contact page is maintained; older pages and documents kept the previous value.
